In a surprise turn for no-name PMPs, the
Ainol V3000 actually didn't seem so shabby when we first spotted it in July. Of particular note was the device's 4.3-inch 800 x 480 screen, and it always helps when the device behind that screen isn't ugly. Well, the folks at b4tech managed to nab one and did a little video review (embedded after the break). It looks even more delicious in motion, and while the menus look a tad weak and
not very English, we think we could overlook a lot if the price is right.

the screen wasn't ugly till they stamped "ainol" (anal?) on it
backdoorman @ Sep 5th 2008 8:20PM
What a great name "Ainol", plus they have the little asterik just in case you can picture what they are talking about.
Who wouldnt love to receive Ainol for their birthday or Christmas?
brandon @ Sep 5th 2008 8:20PM

I'm going to start a consumer electronics company and call it "Entercourse." Our fist PMP will be the Quickie.
Lediur @ Sep 5th 2008 8:22PM
This looks like it could be a competitor to the Cowon A3.

Scott @ Sep 5th 2008 8:47PM
Is it just me or does some of the branding on the box (ends) look A LOT like iPod? (Note the text with the rounded rectangle at 0:19)
scott @ Sep 5th 2008 8:49PM
And 0:30
cesium @ Sep 5th 2008 11:17PM

Rubicon @ Sep 5th 2008 10:19PM

lukas88 @ Sep 6th 2008 2:44AM
Unfortunately I bought something so good like 20 years ago that I haven't bothered to buy anything since then. If only I could remember what it was.
mrpoo @ Sep 5th 2008 9:18PM
The product was originally named the Retentive, I don't know why they changed it.
CJ @ Sep 6th 2008 8:38AM
One of the in-house marketing gurus was being especially picky that day. You know the type, everything has to be JUST SO, or it's not good enough
KYDS3K @ Sep 5th 2008 9:23PM
I would drop some loot on an Ainol PMP!
k2001 @ Sep 6th 2008 1:19AM

Love the player, hate the name. Hope some other company rebranded it and sell it in the US.

Great, a touch sensitive Ainol.
Gareth @ Sep 6th 2008 6:46AM

RetepV @ Sep 6th 2008 9:03AM

backdoorman @ Sep 7th 2008 3:58AM
I LOVE *AINOL. I can watch it all day long.
whormongr @ Sep 7th 2008 11:07AM
if this supports xvid, has a drag and drop interface and is sub $200- it looks like a deal- good screen size, looks clear, I would like to see more specs and features though
Greg @ Sep 8th 2008 1:01PM
This has the same screen resolution as the Nokia N800 Internet tablet. The Nokia will play all sorts of media content (MP3, MP4, AVI, etc.), has an FM radio, touch screen interface, and will even surf the web through its built-in WiFi transceiver or bluetooth through your cell phone. The Nokia N800 can also be had for around $200.
KarlBishop @ Sep 7th 2008 2:12PM
Besides all of the backdoor jokes, isn't this device pointless with it only running videos. I almost agree with the iphone comment, except. . .. it's an iphone.
Mickel @ Sep 8th 2008 11:16AM
I'd love to get some Ainol!
Steve @ Oct 4th 2008 5:14PM
hey does it support regular sd and sdhc cards because i saw the minisd insert but it looked like regular sd would fit also.
Gylman @ Oct 25th 2008 4:08PM
I purchased one on eBay and have been using this for a couple of days.
It looks reasonably well made and feels good to hold.
$120 on eBay, 20$ shipping from Hong Kong.
screen quality is very good.
It is NOT a touchscreen (in case anyone was not sure), but navigating is pretty easy using the provided buttons at the top of the screen
I have not had easy success getting it to play my video files. It mostly kinda works, but re-encoding is required, lots of file are not recognized that I have no trouble playing in Coreplayer on my iPAQ, and it is a bit choppy. Having said that, it works better than on my Nokia N800, Greg.
It only reads .txt files, so its usefulness as a book reader is very limited. That was my biggest disappointment.
And to answer a question above, it's only mini-SD. Definitely the slot does not fit SD or SDHC.
